Historic surroundings near Kandy

Angunawala, in Central Province, is located in Sri Lanka about 55 miles (88km) north-east of Colombo, the country's capital. It used to be the home of the Angunawala Walauwa and the prominent Radala members of the Angunawala family, hailing from the Kandyan Kingdom. There are eight airports close to Angunawala, one of which is a larger airport — the closest is Bandaranaike International Colombo Airport, 48 miles (77km) to the west. There are several UNESCO World Heritage Sites nearby, the closest being the Sacred City of Kandy, 6 miles (9km) to the north-east. While in the area, you might want to pay a visit to Kandy, Kurunegala, Badulla, Ratnapura and Katunayaka.

Historic Angunawala Walauwa

This ancestral manor house was the home of the prominent Radala members of the Angunawala family, hailing from the Kandyan Kingdom, and reflects the area's royal-era heritage.

Bogambara Prison

Bogambara Prison was a maximum security prison and the second-largest prison in the country after Welikada Prison in Colombo. After operating for 138 years, the prison was closed on 1 January 2014, and the inmates were transferred to the new Dumbara prison complex in Pallekele. In 2019, the government declared the prison site would become a cultural tourism centre, the Bogambara Cultural Park.

Asgiriya Stadium

Asgiriya Stadium is a cricket stadium situated in Kandy, and is the private property of Trinity College, Kandy. It's around a 10-minute walk from the centre of the city, and the venue is usually used when an international team tours Sri Lanka for a Test Match. Asgiriya became Sri Lanka's second Test venue, after the Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu Stadium, when it hosted Greg Chappell's Australian cricket team in Sri Lanka in 1982–83.

Bogambara Stadium

Bogambara Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Kandy, one of the oldest grounds in the country. It is currently used mostly for rugby matches, and hosted games of the Singer Sri Lankan Airlines Rugby 7's, with a capacity of 30,000.
